~*~*~*~*~

after a three month break and some struggle to (eventually) clearing up all the contest backlog, we are now free to host a new contest. :aww:

the contest HAIGA will be open from the day this journal goes public till 15:59:59 Friday 15 March, 2013 in GMT.

this contest is looking for haijin to write an original haiku/tanka and make a minimalistic, relevant and matching picture to accompany the haiku.

the picture can be either a photograph or a painting/drawing.

rules and regulation for the contest are as follow:

:bulletred: please submit your entries to the contest folder "2013 - Haiga". the entries will be automatically approved. you can submit entry as long as you are a member of this club.

:bulletred: every member can submit up to two entries, only one can win.

:bulletred: the entries have to be new deviations made after today. the picture must be made by the haijin him/herself. please do not use stock images or images from any search engines.

:bulletred: you must submit the entries to the contest folder before 15 March, 15:59 GMT. the folder will be close after this time, and no more entries will be accepted.

:bulletred: the haiku/tanka must be able to stand-alone apart from the image, i.e. can be understood without the image. verses that relies on the image to explain the meaning cannot win the contest.

the haiku must follow all the rules of traditional haiku. 5-7-5 syllables' pretty sentences that do not show the spirit of haiku (minimalism, clear mental image) will be moved to the "is this a haiku?" folder.

:bulletred: only one haiku to an image, no chain/set of multiple haiku/tanka allowed in one single entry.

:bulletred: depending on the number of entries we will have the first, second and third place and honorable mentions.

the panel of judges include

:iconmoyanii: :iconhaijinik: :iconreddragonfly: :iconzippip: :iconalmcdermid: :iconjade-pandora:

the judges can participate but they cannot win the contest.

Although I like all the haiku poems listed, and even find a few of them to be outstanding, I'd just like to point out that only the second honorable mentions meets the following rule listed for the contest.

--- the haiku must follow all the rules of traditional haiku. 5-7-5 syllables' pretty sentences that do not show the spirit of haiku (minimalism, clear mental image) will be moved to the "is this a haiku?" folder.

Granted first place is only one syllable off on the first line. Unless I'm missing something really big here. Like, I'm not complaining that I didn't win, that's fine. I just joined to try to get some contructive feedback. I just don't think it's fair to state rules for a contest, then give first second and third place to pieces that don't meet those rules. It may limit those who followed the standard 5-7-5 format.
